Meet Cherry: Your Future Couch Potato & Professional Snorer.
Cherry is a gorgeous, sweet-natured Cane Corso of approximately two years old who is absolutely bursting with love to give. Sadly, Cherry didn’t get the best start in life and spent over a year in RSPCA care while a neglect investigation was carried out regarding her previous owners. Despite a tough beginning, her resilient, affectionate spirit shines bright. She arrived at our center in March and instantly became a firm favorite among all the staff and volunteers.
Recently, Cherry hit the jackpot and spent some time in a foster home with a staff member. While she was a little unsure at first, she settled in a treat and quickly discovered the joys of home life. She has officially mastered the art of becoming an extension of the sofa, where she happily spends her evenings snoozing and snoring the night away. Cherry is a social butterfly who genuinely loves people and other dogs. She has a wonderful balance of being interactive and independent, loving her toys and playing with her humans, but she is also excellent at keeping herself entertained, especially if there is a squeaker involved. You might notice how beautiful her eyes are in her photos; Cherry did have a condition called cherry eye when she arrived, but she has since undergone a highly successful operation and is now a picture-perfect portrait.
On her walks, Cherry is a very good girl and mainly walks beautifully on the lead. However, due to her size, it is important to note that she can be strong when she wants to be. She loves making friends, but she can sometimes get a bit over-enthusiastic and excitable when greeting passing dogs. The great news is she is improving every day and is getting much better at responding to her name to refocus. Cherry also proved to be house-trained in her foster home, though she may have a minor accident or two when adjusting to a brand-new environment. With a consistent routine and someone around most of the time to begin with, she should be just fine.
When it comes to traveling, Cherry does reasonably well in the car, though she can sometimes be a bit apprehensive about jumping in and out. She is known to over-salivate during rides, which suggests she might experience a touch of motion sickness when unsettled, so her new family should stick to shorter car journeys to begin with to help her build up her confidence.
Because she missed out on so much early in life, we are looking to rehome Cherry as an only dog. She truly deserves to lap up every ounce of attention for herself and finally experience the loving home she lacked at the beginning of her life. This being said, she is very social and would still benefit greatly from having a visiting dog or a regular doggy friend to go on walks with. Due to her size and strength, she would be best suited to a home with children of teenage years and above.
If you have a Corso-sized space on your sofa, and don't mind a bit of snoring, Cherry is ready to fill your heart.
Cherry currently weighs 42kg.
