DESMOND
Meet Desmond; a handsome, 11 Month old Malinois cross living with us at Ashley Heath RSPCA.

Desmondo is a young, intelligent boy with huge potential and huge enthusiasm. He’s not for a typical rehoming situation and is looking for a specific type of environment. He would be well suited in an experienced / sporting / working / training home.

Desmond had a rocky start and hadn’t been treated the best but this hasn’t damaged his faith in people. He is a bright, driven boy who is progressing well with his training with us at the centre.
Desmond has his challenges but we are seeing consistent and continued improvement. He can struggle with managing his arousal / excitement and stress levels at times but is gaining tools to help him when seeing people or dogs and experiencing new situations. He is doing well with his training to improve this and will progress with the right guidance, knowledge and support.
Being in a shelter environment while currently at a crucial stage in his development, breed traits and needs isn’t ideal but he is making obvious progress with consistent handling, structure, a predictable routine and training plan.

Desmond likes to use his nose to search for food or hidden toys, he is engaged and enjoys learning and interacting. He likes to play and is learning skills through play at the moment. We are confident that with the right experienced caregivers he will continue to flourish and grow in to a brilliant canine compadre. .

Desmond is a loving boy who gets a lot of comfort and reassurance from his trusted humans. He is a tactile boy who loves affection and is looking for support and stability in his life to guide him along the right path and become the wonderful boy he can be.

He will be looking for an adult only home with kind and knowledgeable individuals with experience of higher needs, active and highly intelligent breeds to give him the best chance of success. He will need his own private and fully secure garden to have freedom and space.

What he needs:
An adult only home
An experienced, knowledgeable or working home (ideally with working or high-drive breeds)
Someone committed to ongoing training and behaviour work
A structured environment with clear boundaries
Patience and understanding of his developmental stage
Humans who love a tactile cuddly dog.

Desmond is not a first-time dog or “easy pet” but in the right hands, he has all the ingredients to become an exceptional and loving companion.
