Meet Rodney. Our handsome, young bully cross.
Rodney AKA ‘RODDERS’ came to us in early 2025 as his family's life was too busy to cope with the added responsibility of a large dog.
Rodders is a young, energetic, very athletic boy who hasn’t had the best start to his early life; spending most of it in a shelter. He is a striking, clever, and high-energy boy with a nice nature who is looking for a dedicated family to be partners-in-crime with. He isn’t just looking for a backyard; he’s looking for a job to do and a handler who speaks his language.
Rodney has been doing well with his training at the centre but will require a home willing to continue the training he has started and continue his development.
He has Improved his lead walking skills but can still be very strong on lead at times. His new family needs to be physically able to handle him.
He is making good progress when seeing other dogs but can still struggle to pass other dogs close by without straining towards them. This will need continued development in a stable environment. He does have some doggy friends he walks nicely with at the centre.
He is a social boy but can often feel conflicted about how to behave when meeting someone new. This can look like enthusiasm or an excitable greeting to the untrained eye - so he needs a patient handler who is willing to learn and can guide him through these interactions with good knowledge, understanding and interpretation of dog communication.
Rodney is a bit of a scholar; he is a "clever boy" who truly enjoys the training process. He is an affectionate boy when he is relaxed and with his familiar people.
He is good indoors in the office and is able to settle and engage with chews / toys / snooze.
He appears to be toilet trained and is clean inside his kennel and indoor spaces.
He enjoys training and learning new things and playing.
He loves an adventure and activity and a good bask in the sunshine.
Rodney will need to be on lead when out and about in public due to his skills, energy and size.
He can struggle with controlling impulses but is able to learn and progress in these areas even though he lives in a shelter environment.
Rodney is hoping to find an understanding, active, dog-centric home. He is a whole lot of dog and needs to find a home with people who are experienced and have an interest in canine body language and behaviour. As a true activity dog, Rodney thrives when both his mind and body are kept busy with regular fun work he also loves an upside down snooze on a bed with his legs in the air!
He will benefit from a quiet and predictable household where he can relax and decompress to be his best self and build his life skills; he is looking for a home with no young children.
Rodney will need to be the only pet, and a home that has an enclosed garden with high fences where he can let off steam and sniff around safely.
Rodders is the kind of dog who will give you back exactly what you put in. Invest the time and you will have a loyal, capable, and fun loving companion by your side.
