Meet Freddie! Having lived in a home that could no longer care for him, and spending some additional time in our care for training, we feel this lovely boy is now ready to find his forever home.
Freddie is a young, bright and energetic collie that sadly arrived into our care through no fault of his own. On arrival, Freddie did show some sensitivities around some experiences. But, with some gentle work from our behaviour team at the centre he has made steady progress, we are now looking to find him an experienced home where he can enjoy life as he should.
Freddie thrives on activity and structure, and given time is now able to walk comfortably around other dogs. He has shown a love of playing with both footballs, tennis balls, and any toys that squeak and enjoys urban herding games. Given time in a quieter space is when Freddie can truly settle and he has proven to be an excellent office dog. When away from the busy day-to-day, he has a very affectionate nature and proven to be very responsive to clicker training also which has greatly benefitted his veterinary handling.
When Freddie first arrived, he found formal handling a little unsettling, often trying to move away to show he wasn't comfortable in a vet environment. However, thanks to consistent, positive training, Freddie has now found his confidence! He knows his routine: he will happily position himself on a mat, allow a muzzle to be placed on, and then allow familiar handlers and the veterinary team to run through a full health examination. We are looking for an applicant who is committed to continuing this successful work at home to ensure Freddie continues to thrive. We will, of course, share the specific training steps taken to reach this point with successful applicants.
During his time in our care, Freddie was also placed in a foster home. The foster carers reported that he was calm and clean indoors, often choosing to rest near them. However, the foster period ended sooner than planned after Freddie became stressed during a large social gathering. Further details on this can be discussed with successful applicants.
Due to his additional needs, Freddie is best suited to a rural, adult only home, with adopters that are experienced and understanding of Collie’s and their drive to be active. A secure garden space would also be desirable to provide a safe space and outlet for additional energy. After some time to settle, Freddie may also enjoy additional hobbies such as agility, hoopers or even scent work such as mantrailing to keep him mentally engaged and enriched.
