Kitty is one of our most sensitive and vulnerable dogs and is looking for a very special, understanding home. She comes from a multi-dog household and must live with at least one calm, confident dog, as canine companionship is vital to help her feel safe and secure.
Although Kitty is extremely frightened and finds the world overwhelming, she is also a very high-energy poodle-type dog. This means her future home will need to balance patience and calm with appropriate outlets for her physical and mental energy. She will need an adopter who understands that while her confidence is low, her energy levels are high and that helping her learn how to safely and positively use that energy will be an important part of her progress.
Kitty will need significant time to settle into a new home. Everything will be new and potentially scary and her world will need to be kept small, quiet and predictable while she adjusts. Full training will be required, including house training, but trust, routine and security must come before expectations.
As a poodle type, Kitty will require regular grooming, which will need to be introduced very gradually and with care once she feels comfortable with handling.
She requires an adult-only home with someone who has experience of nervous or fearful dogs. Kitty may be able to live with cats, following very slow and carefully managed introductions. She is not suitable for children.
Due to her fearfulness, potential adopters will need to visit the centre multiple times to spend time with Kitty and allow a bond to develop before adoption can be considered. For this reason, a local home is strongly preferred.
Kitty is not a dog for everyone, but for the right person, calm, experienced and committed, she has the potential to slowly build confidence and learn that the world isn’t such a frightening place. Her future family will need to celebrate tiny steps forward and be prepared to give her the time she needs to truly settle and thrive
The adoption fee for this dog is £275
