About Me

Breed: Domestic Shorthair crossbreed
Colour: Black
Age: 6-12 Months
Ref: ANI02199

This young female is Buttons, 9-month-old black Domestic Shorthair. She came into our care as part of a multi-cat household, a situation that initially left her feeling overwhelmed and unsure.
When Buttons first arrived at the centre, she was understandably very shut down and exhibited a significant lack of trust towards people. Her world had been disrupted, and she retreated into herself. However, the time she has spent with us has been a period of gradual, yet encouraging, progress. Her confidence is slowly blossoming, although it is important for any potential adopter to understand that she is still a work in progress and will require continued patience and gentle encouragement.
Buttons is beginning to show glimpses of her playful and affectionate side. She is now happily motivated by food, eagerly taking treats, which is a great sign of her growing comfort. Playtime is a huge positive outlet for her; she absolutely adores any game involving a chasey toy, which helps her to express natural hunting instincts and bond with people in a non-threatening way.
Due to her initially nervous temperament and the time it takes her to build trust, we are looking for a calm, predictable home environment. We believe that a household with older, more understanding individuals would be best suited to her needs. Therefore, we are looking for a home with children aged 16 years and over.
Buttons will require a period of strict indoor living initially to allow her to fully settle into her new surroundings and bond with her new family without external stressors. This settling-in phase is crucial for her long-term well-being.
Once fully comfortable and confident, we feel she would greatly benefit from having safe outdoor access to enrich her life. A garden where she can explore and express natural behaviours is ideal. For this reason, we are looking for a home situated in a safe and low-traffic area where she can eventually explore without undue risk.
Buttons has lived with other felines in the past. We believe that with a careful and correct introduction process, she could potentially live happily alongside another resident cat. However, we feel that the presence of a dog would be too overwhelming and stressful for her sensitive nature at this stage.
