About Me

Breed: Domestic Shorthair crossbreed
Colour: Black
Age: 2 Years (approx)
Ref: ANI05893

Peggy is a beautiful 2 year old female domestic shorthair who is eagerly looking for her forever home. She arrived in our care after being rescued from a multi-cat household. Because she missed out on key early socialization, Peggy was understandably very shut down and scared when she first came to the centre.

In the time she has been with us, Peggy's confidence has grown significantly, though her emotional recovery is still a gradual work in progress. She remains quite timid around people during the day and prefers to hide away in her pod. However, she has recently begun showing encouraging signs of progress, such as coming out of hiding when a dedicated volunteer goes in to socialise her. In the quiet early hours of the morning when she knows she is completely alone, her playful side shines through as she loves to explore her environment and bat balls around in her plastic chaser toy. She is also highly motivated by food and enjoys treats like meat on a lick mat, lick-i-licks, and dreamies, though she prefers to indulge in them after staff have stepped away.

Due to how timid Peggy is, we are looking for an adult-only home or a home with older teenagers who can fully understand and respect her boundaries. To help her adjust without becoming overwhelmed, Peggy will benefit from a dedicated "safe room" to start with.

Peggy would need to remain indoors until she has finally settled into her new home. Once she is completely secure in her new environment, if she demonstrates a strong and consistent desire to experience the outdoors, adopters must understand that safe outdoor access must be given for her welfare.

With the correct introduction she could possibly live with another cat; however, we feel like a dog would be too much for her. Because she comes from a multi-cat background, she remains naturally curious and will approach her door when she hears other felines. However, since she is easily startled and highly intolerant of stressful handling, a dog-free household is essential for her delicate disposition. Peggy is a wonderful project cat who needs a patient, understanding family willing to earn her trust and give her the secure environment she needs to truly blossom.
