About Me

Breed: Domestic Shorthair crossbreed
Colour: Black
Age: 2 Years (approx)
Ref: ANI05892

This beautiful young lady is Scarlett, a lovely 2-year-old black domestic shorthair. Her journey to us began when she was brought into our care from a multi-cat household, an experience that has understandably left her feeling a little overwhelmed and shy.

When Scarlett first arrived, she was incredibly timid. Her initial response to her new surroundings was to hide away, preferring solitude to interaction and showing little interest in receiving attention. We have been working with her gently, and we are delighted to report that she is steadily improving, though her confidence journey is still a work in progress.

While she remains cautious, the way to her heart is certainly through her stomach and a good play session! She will now happily and enthusiastically take treats from a trusted hand. Furthermore, her playful side emerges beautifully when presented with a feathered chasey toy—a favourite pastime that helps her to relax and express her natural feline instincts. Most importantly, once she forms a bond and develops trust with a person, she genuinely enjoys a good fuss and will seek out affection. Her new adopter will need patience and understanding to nurture this trust.

We believe Scarlett would thrive in a home with older, cat-experienced children, specifically those aged 14 and above. A quieter environment where she is not subjected to sudden loud noises or boisterous activity would be beneficial for her continued progress. Her new family must have a deep understanding of cat behaviour and be prepared to give her the time and space she needs to fully settle in.

Regarding other pets, Scarlett shows potential to live harmoniously with another cat, provided the introduction is done correctly, slowly, and thoughtfully. She has come from a multi-cat background, so while she is cautious, the presence of a calm, resident cat may even help her build confidence. However, we feel that the presence of a dog would be too overwhelming for her current level of nervousness and is therefore not recommended.

Scarlett’s initial period in her new home must be strictly indoors. This is crucial for her to fully settle, establish scent markers, and feel completely secure in her new territory. We have limited information about her past experience with the outside world. Once she is fully settled—a process that could take several weeks or even months—if she shows a clear and strong desire to explore the outdoors (indicated by consistent window-watching and scratching at doors), her adopters must understand that allowing her safe outdoor access is in her best interest for her psychological and physical well-being. This access should ideally be to a secure garden or safe, quiet area.

Scarlett is a sweet girl who is waiting for a calm, loving home where she can blossom into the confident, affectionate cat we know she can be.
