About Me

Breed: Lurcher crossbreed
Colour: Black
Age: 1 Year (approx)
Ref: ANI01050

This is Benji, our beautiful 1 year old lurcher.

Benji is an exceptionally intelligent, sensitive, and affectionate boy who never fails to make us laugh. He is looking for an active and engaging home that will fully appreciate his brain as much as his heart. Benji has attended training sessions and has an amazing list of skills which can be built upon in the home. He knows sit, down, can settle on a mat, wait, has good recall, and walks nicely on lead. He also knows paw and high five. Benji particularly enjoys scentwork and problem-solving tasks, absolutely thriving when he can use his brain and exceptional nose!

Benji loves people and greets politely, although he does sometimes want to stand up for a big cuddle. He is affectionate, gentle, and just loves to be by your side.

Benji travels well in the car and loves to go exploring. He particularly enjoys woodland walks where he can sniff to his heart’s content. He enjoys playing with toys, especially soft toys and balls, and he will drop and wait on command. He can enjoy this a little too much though, so he needs quiet time with toys packed away and a balance of rest and enrichment to ensure he doesn’t become too fixated on toys.

Benji can be a sensitive boy due to his past, and he thrives with positive, reward based training and kind, consistent relationships. Because Benji is so clever too, he can become bored if under stimulated. When that happens, he may find ways to occupy himself. However, when he has regular enrichment and routine, he is calm, focused, and an absolute pleasure to be with. Adopters must be willing to actively engage with him and continue his training to enable him to ensure he lives his best life.

Benji is good with other dogs on lead walks, but his off-lead play is intense. As such we feel that he would be best suited as the only dog in the home.

Important things to note about Benji-

Due to his high prey drive, Benji cannot live with cats or small pets, and he has been known to chase birds.

He could live with teenagers who are able to respect and engage with him gently.

He will need a securely fenced garden with a 6ft fence.

Benji will need someone who is able to be at home all the time, and who is able and willing to build up the time he is left gradually and at his pace.

Benji is a very special pup with huge potential. He is affectionate, gentle and bright and will give back everything you put in and more! If you believe you could be the perfect fit, please fill in an application form telling us a little about your home and lifestyle.

If you are interested in adopting an animal from West Hatch RSPCA, please have a look on "ÅÝܽÊÓƵ" in the first instance. Once you have seen an animal you are interested in, you can apply easily online via the link to a google form at the bottom of their profile. Once we receive the application, it will be reviewed by a member of staff, and if you are a suitable match we will then make contact to discuss the animal further. This will be either by email initially or by phone. We will then ask you to email us photos of your home and garden, as well as ID. This continues to replace the homevisit that we would have carried out pre-covid. We can then make an appointment for you to come to the centre to meet your chosen animal before you commit to adoption.
