Rex is a handsome and affectionate five year old lurcher.
Rex is incredibly friendly and adores people. He is a genuinely kind dog, with a soft and gentle nature. Sometimes though, he is so overjoyed to meet someone that he jumps up for a cuddle. He just wants to be close, but he will need a little continued guidance around his enthusiastic greetings. Rex is bright and responsive, always wanting to be a good boy for his handlers, and he learns very quickly. He already has a great recall and knows how to sit for a treat.
Rex is friendly with other dogs, both big and small. On lane walks he is polite and relaxed, and he reads other dogs nicely. Because of his size and strength during his zoomies, if he were to live with another dog we would recommend a similar sized, calm companion who can match him physically. He walks on a loose lead, only pulling if something is very exciting. Off lead, he trots along by your side beautifully, but this is only in secure spaces due to his prey drive.
Rex keeps his kennel beautifully clean and tidy, so we are pretty sure that housetraining will not be too much of an issue in his new home. We expect he will transition into home life very smoothly, but he would like someone around most of the time initially, so he can settle in and feel secure before gradually building up alone time. He hasn't had much expereince of car travel, so this may need to be bulit up gradually so that it becomes a positive experience.
Rex has the most beautiful character and his new family will be very lucky to have him. He is now ready for a calm, caring home that will give him the love and security he is so ready for; and take him on lots of fun adventures of course! Rex could live with teenagers who are used to bigger dogs but he would not be able to live with cats or small animals because he would find them a little too interesting!
If you think Rex could be the boy for you, please fill in an application form and tell us a little about you and the home you can offer him.

If you are interested in adopting an animal from West Hatch RSPCA, please have a look on "ÅÝܽÊÓƵ" in the first instance. Once you have seen an animal you are interested in, you can apply easily online via the link to a google form at the bottom of their profile. Once we receive the application, it will be reviewed by a member of staff, and if you are a suitable match we will then make contact to discuss the animal further. This will be either by email initially or by phone. We will then ask you to email us photos of your home and garden, as well as ID. This continues to replace the homevisit that we would have carried out pre-covid. We can then make an appointment for you to come to the centre to meet your chosen animal before you commit to adoption.
